A contemporary tale of making a fortune in the West Texas oil rig world
Check out writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series, ranked by user ratings on IMDb. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.
As mentioned on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #4424 (2022)
Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases so that drilling for oil and gas can begin. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (the man camp), set up drilling rigs, and oversee the drilling of wells, especially in remote locations. They are also the Parts Fixer, Problem Solver, and Facilitator.
Similarly, the roles of both his wife and daughter seem out of place in the series
For someone so focused on his goals, the inclusion of an emotionally unstable, one-man circus completely defeats the purpose of the show. Her character seems to disrupt the central narrative by adding unnecessary chaos rather than supporting his journey. The portrayal doesn’t enhance the plot, but instead makes it difficult to focus on his determination and seriousness.
Rather than enhancing the plot or character dynamics, this approach feels like a superficial attention-grabbing ploy
The wife seems emotionally unpredictable and the daughter seems to lack intellectual depth, which is not to mention her contribution to the plot. The portrayal of the daughter feels particularly shallow, with her character adding little value to the story beyond her superficial interventions. Furthermore, the constant jumping around of these characters in provocative outfits, seemingly for no other purpose than to attract the audience, seems out of place with the tone of the show.
