Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars were in contention for the role of the Jackal in the 1973 film, but the role went to then-unknown Edward Fox because director Fred Zinnemann thought he could blend in with the crowd. Eddie Redmayne as Jackal definitely wasn’t on my streaming series bingo card this year, but there it is
It’s great to see a classic novel with such a lavish production and it all plays out really well as far as I’m concerned. The locations look great, the action sequences have been exciting so far, and the performances have been convincing. Like other reviewers, I don’t buy Lashan Lynch as an MI:6 operative and feel she was misplaced in the role.
Otherwise, great old school cloak and dagger fun
On the other hand, it’s always good to see Charles Day flex his acting muscles. Ursula Corberó is a delight to watch on screen, although I fear she is a bit underused.
